Leaves simple, penninerved, exstipulate. Usually spiral or crowded
Flowers
Flower bisexual, zygomorphic, 5-merous; ovary inferior, stigma surrounded by a cup-shaped indusium. Usually corolla gamopetalous with a dorsal slit; stamens 5, free
Different from: Campanulaceae: stigma without indusium.
Distribution: The family is best represented in Australia. In Malesia 5 genera, including: - Scaevola with one littoral species and a few growing inland.
Notes: Scaevola oppositifolia is a potential ornamental.
